Cellular outages reported nationwide early Thursday morning left many without service.
The outage left people trying to figure out ways around the issue.
AT&T stated its customers saw an "SOS" message and advised them to connect to Wi-Fi to make calls.
According to Apple Support, the message indicates that the device is having trouble connecting to their cellular provider’s network, but it can make emergency calls through other carrier networks.
Wi-Fi calling allows cellphone users to make or receive a phone call if connected to a Wi-Fi signal, according to Apple Support.
Some apps, including Google Maps, have limited service offline. Payment apps also do not use a phone's cell service to work and should also be useable, according to a report by the Associated Press.
The cause of the outage has not been revealed.
At 11:15 a.m. EST, AT&T said three-quarters of our network has been restored and were continuing to restore service for its remaining customers.
Verzion provided an update stating its "network is operating normally."
